I had read and heard so much about the surreal transition of this place from summer to fall and then winter. But honestly, it was only the tip of the iceberg to read about it and see the pictures.
When I finally planned a trip and saw the real view of the place, I was blown away! It was so much more beautiful than what I had imagined. Too pretty to be true actually! Many travelers flock to New England every year as it’s a must-visit destination indeed,

Stowe is a charming town in Lamoille County, Vermont. It lies on Routes 108 and 100. It is a perfect four-season destination and scores unique ways to keep you amazed by its stunning views, refreshed with its natural wonders, and thrilled through its adventuring options.
Here’s a list of the best places in and near Stowe that you can’t afford to miss-
Before we arrived in Stowe, we spent two days exploring the beautiful town of Woodstock. (Whether you’re already familiar with its attractions or thinking about visiting soon, take a moment to read about our delightful journey.)
1. Route 100 – A Scenic Journey Through Vermont’s Beauty

After spending a delightful day exploring Woodstock, we set our sights on Stowe via Route 100. This 189-mile route runs from the northern to southern tip of Vermont, showcasing some of the state’s most mesmerizing scenery. During fall season, the foliage becomes like an intricately painted canvas in shades of green, red, yellow, and orange. Many tourists from around the world visit between June and October for a hearty, breath-taking sight of the leaves as they change colors.
However, the route is passable in all other seasons too. You can drive from north to south as well as vice versa, but it’s suggested to start from the southern end due to its proximity to metropolitan areas and the airport. Along the way, you’ll pass through several towns and villages, providing ample opportunities for shopping, dining, and lodging to keep yourself stocked and recharged.
2. Moss glen falls – Nature’s Refreshing Cascade
If you love visiting natural wonders, do stop by this one located around 3 miles off Route 100 on Randolph Road. Moss Glen Falls features a series of beautiful cascading waterfalls that will refresh you with its sight. There’s a small, free parking area where you can park your car.
Then, to access these falls, follow the Moss Glen Falls Trail and you will reach the base of the falls after around 3 miles of hiking. The burble of falling water and the gorgeous view of thin streams make this spot a must-visit place in Stowe.

3. Smuggler’s notch state park:
Smuggler’s Notch is a narrow pass through the Green Mountains and is one of the best scenic byways in Vermont. Nestled within Vermont’s stunning Green Mountains, Smugglers’ Notch State Park stands as a captivating natural wonder, beckoning to be discovered. This alluring park, replete with its soaring cliffs, verdant woodlands, and crystalline streams, presents an idyllic haven for outdoor enthusiasts of diverse persuasions.

The Notch also offers several activities like cave exploring, bouldering, biking, etc. Night hikes and campfire programs are also popular among visitors. However, snowmobiles, skiers, ice climbers, etc. have restricted access in the winter months.

Nestled in Vermont’s Green Mountains, Stowe’s downtown is where you’ll find a mix of nature, culture, and history all in one spot.

Downtown Stowe is a carry-forward portrayal of a classic 200-year-old village that still imbues the historic European character. You can find plenty opportunities to do photo-snapping including the Stowe Community Church which is one of the most photographed churches in New England. There are various shops, galleries and restaurants too that you can explore. The overall vibe of downtown is cozy and calm and I’m sure you’ll love strolling around.
7. Ben & Jerry’s Factory: Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth
While you’re driving on Route 100, don’t miss visiting Ben & Jerry’s first ever factory in Waterbury. You can delight yourself with their delicious ice cream flavors, go for the indoor factory tour or pick a favorite from their gift shop.
The factory tour elaborates the evolution of Ben & Jerry’s into a widely beloved brand right from when Ben & Jerry met. Also, indulging in the delectable flavors by Ben & Jerry’s at their first factory site gives a really special joy. Route 100 runs from north to south of the state and is probably the best to see the amazing fall foliage. Route 4 is a beautiful four-lane expressway stretching between the New York state line and the New Hampshire state line. The Quechee covered bridge is a popular and picture-perfect spot on this route before you reach another splendid one in Woodstock.
Other popular byways include Route 9 (a short east-west route that looks stunning in the fall and has many camping, hiking opportunities along the way), Route 7 (stretched along the western edge with beautiful lake and mountain views), Mad River Byway, Molly Stark Byway, and Stone Valley Byway, etc.
